Facebook and Fake News: Flagging Posts Does Little to Combat Lies

Facebook’s attempt to cut out fake or — as the social network puts it — “disputed” news has been in vain so far, according to a new study from Yale University. It shows that flagging fake news on the platform does little to convince readers of its inauthenticity. David Rand, associate professor of psychology at Yale, told TheWrap his study demonstrated little evidence the flagging feature on the social network made much of a difference. “The big take home for us, in terms of getting people to not believe fake news or to be better at telling fake news from real news, »

Emmys Axed Obama Cameo, Long Before Sean Spicer Appearance (Exclusive)

People on the left and right alike criticized all the politics at this year’s Emmy Awards. But TheWrap has learned exclusively that in 2013, the show skirted politics by cutting at the last minute a sketch that would have included President Obama. Democrats accused this year’s ceremony of “normalizing” ex-White House spokesman Sean Spicer by giving him a splashy cameo in the show’s opening number. Republicans objected to the many jabs at President Trump by host Stephen Colbert and others. But an Obama team insider says Spicer’s cameo “reeks of hypocrisy,” because the academy indicated four years ago it was “solely focused. »

Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant has apologized for comments he made on Twitter over the weekend when he smack-talke his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and coach Billy Donovan, calling his words “childish” and “idiotic.” But let’s rewind. On Sunday, Twitter user @harrisonmc15 spotted a reply from Durant’s verified account trashing his former coach and team — in the third person, which seemed weird. @harrisonmc15 took this to mean that Durant created secret accounts to defend himself, and forgot to switch over to one of these anonymous accounts before defending himself in the third person to another user who asked for “one. »

‘Gaga: Five Foot Two’ Review: A Star Is Exhausted, Then Reborn, but for How Long?

Halfway through Chris Moukarbel’s documentary “Gaga: Five Foot Two,” Lady Gaga sits at a piano in the Rainbow Room at a tribute to Tony Bennett. She sings what is still her best song, “Bad Romance,” belting it out slowly and with feeling while Bennett looks on approvingly. Her talent is clear, but her neediness is even clearer. Director Moukarbel (“Me at the Zoo”) has edited this movie, which charts the lead-up to Gaga’s performance at the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show, to make it look like she spends most of her time either in tears or on the verge. »
